Today we delivered authorization cards signed by over 80% of postdocs to the NLRB!

Exciting news! Yesterday, we filed our petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) asking for an official election to form WCM Postdocs United-UAW as our union. Today, we delivered the hundreds of union cards signed by postdocs supporting our petition. Once a majority of us vote “yes” in our union election, we will elect a bargaining committee made up of postdocs, decide on our shared priorities democratically, and start negotiations with Weill Cornell Medicine.

We really found inspiration in the hundreds of conversations that took place while collecting these cards. We heard repeatedly how much postdocs care about our research, our colleagues and the next generation of postdocs. The fact that more than 80% of us signed authorization cards in support of our union sends a strong statement ahead of bargaining that we postdocs deserve better working conditions and a fair contract.

We are beginning to prepare for our election and it is important that as many of us as possible participate actively to reach a strong “yes” vote for our union. Please sign up to do so here.

We hope that WCM refrains from any effort to influence the postdocs’ vote on unionization or to delay the election process, and we will keep you informed throughout.

We’re excited to move from such an amazing card drive toward our election and bargaining as equals with the WCM administration!
