As mentioned in yesterday’s membership meeting, we are announcing the opening of nominations for Local 4100 Officer and unit-specific positions. Please see below for more information including a list of open positions with descriptions of each role, eligibility criteria, and an outline of the elections procedure.

Nominations are hereby declared open on September 04, 2026 for one (1) Executive Board, two (2) Joint Council, one (1) Bargaining Team Member, and fourteen (14) Steward positions. Please see below for a list of open positions:

The following are descriptions of the open roles:

Trustee: Supervise funds and property, audit or cause to semiannually audit by a CPA, make sure Financial Officers follow the rules, see that funds are deposited in the bank appropriately.

Unit Recording Secretary: Maintains records for their Unit, in addition to the responsibilities of Head Steward.

Unit Chair: Has general administrative responsibility for their Unit, in addition to the responsibilities of Head Steward.

Steward: Leads organizing in their District for collective actions and contract enforcement handling for District workers.

Bargaining Team (Committee) Member: During contract negotiations, participate in collective bargaining, attend bargaining sessions, draft and present proposals, engage with the Unit members by communicating reports of bargaining sessions and progress of negotiations.

Eligibility for Open Positions (General):
All unit members having signed a Local 4100 membership card and meeting the eligibility criteria, as outlined in Article 16 of the UAW Local 4100 bylaws, are automatically considered nominees for positions in their respective districts. Some positions are unit specific; listed positions above labeled as “CPW” (Columbia), “SPOC” (Mount Sinai), or “WCMPU” (Weill Cornell Medicine) are restricted to members of that unit.
No member may run for more than one (1) elected office simultaneously with the following exceptions: chairs of standing committees, stewards may run for or hold a bargaining committee membership or Head Steward position. The chair and members of the Elections Committee may not run for or hold another elected office.
Membership in this Local Union shall be extended to all employees who have at any time been under titles that come under the jurisdiction of this Local Union. Membership shall be defined as members in good standing as defined in the International Constitution.
Eligibility for Executive Board Positions:
In accordance with the bylaws, eligibility requirements for candidates are as follows: candidates for the Executive Board must have maintained continuous good standing for a period of one (1) year preceding the acceptance of nomination. As a new unit, this requirement is not yet in effect for members of WCMPU-UAW.
Eligibility for Steward Positions:
Local 4100 has thirty-six (36) Steward positions, broken up into districts: twenty-two (22) at Columbia, seven (7) at Mount Sinai, and seven (7) at Weill Cornell Medicine. Each district is a set of floors and/or building(s) within a campus at one of our institutions, where academic workers are working. There is one (1) Steward position for every seventy-five (75) workers in a district. Candidates for Steward positions must have maintained continuous good standing for a period of ninety (90) days prior to accepting nomination.
Eligibility for Bargaining Team Member Positions:
Candidates for the Bargaining Team Member position must have maintained continuous good standing for a period of ninety (90) days prior to accepting nomination.
Members in good standing who are on indefinite layoff from the employer may not be a candidate for, or vote in, an election for a non-executive local union office that has grievance handling, contract bargaining or contractual administrative duties.
Acceptance of Nominations
Any eligible member in good standing who wishes to accept the nomination for one of the positions listed above must indicate their intention, in writing, including the position they wish to run for. The acceptance of your nomination in writing must be submitted no later than September 18, 2026 11:59 EST. Submit your acceptance to the Local 4100 UAW Elections committee by emailing elections@uaw4100.org.
Elections Procedure
Candidate Statements (Optional)
Each candidate may write and submit a candidate statement of no more than 250 words. These statements will be emailed to members of Local 4100 if there are contested elections. Your mailing address, phone number, and personal email address must be included, but will not be counted toward the 250 words.
It is the responsibility of the candidate to submit the candidate statement, if they choose to have one. All candidate statements must be received by the time nominations close on September 18, 2026 11:59 EST.
Uncontested Positions
In the event that the number of eligible candidates who accept nomination for the specified position do not exceed the number of vacant positions, such candidates will be deemed elected by acclamation and no election will be held.
Candidates Meeting
Following the close of nominations, all candidates for contested positions will meet with the Elections Committee via Zoom. This meeting will determine the order of names on the ballot and the method of mass communications, and address other concerns any candidate may have. This meeting will take place following the close of nominations, but before ballots are sent to members.
Election Dates, Times and Locations
If there are contested positions, elections will take place online from October 02, 2026 to October 09, 2026. If you are a member of the Union, you will receive a ballot in your email and text messages once voting begins. If you wish to participate, you will need to sign a membership card for CPW-UAW, SPOC-UAW, or WCMPU-UAW.
